XIP / GenericsWeb

Question

Response

What is GenericsWeb? The website www.GenericsWeb.com hosts the reporting interface of generic pharma patent research specialists GenericsWeb Pty Ltd.  While patent intelligence will always be our focus, www.GenericsWeb.com has also been designed to be a generics industry specific information portal.
Who is GenericsWeb? GenericsWeb Pty Ltd is an Australian based patent analysis and searching firm.  GenericsWeb hold an impeccable track record in providing quality patent information, and have allowed numerous generic pharmaceutical companies to successfully navigate intellectual property hazards.  All staff are highly skilled and experienced internationally and have extensive experience in pharmaceutical sciences and patent searching.
What is GenericsWeb's history?
GenericsWeb's parent company XIP was established in 1999 to provide patent information and search services to the generic pharmaceutical industry.  Since that time, we have generated a customer base comprising generic pharmaceutical firms, law firms and patent attorneys - amongst the leaders of their respective industries - situated in over twenty countries.  GenericsWeb was launched in 2004 to focus our generics expertise and provide a centralised resource for the generics industry.
What are the qualifications of your staff? All members of our patent searching and analysis department have chemistry degrees; an excellent knowledge of chemistry is a prerequisite for understanding and interpreting chemical patents.  Professional work history involves patent searching for major generics firms, for professional search firms or within chemical patent departments of national patent offices.  They are also mulit-lingual; necessary for understanding patents from various territories.
Where are you located? We are located in beautiful Sydney, Australia.  GenericsWeb is able to service your needs as well as, if not better, than any company based anywhere else in the world due to the convenience of electronic communication and our commitment to responding quickly to our customers enquiries.  We also make ourselves available for contact by telephone or online demonstration and training during your business hours for any consultation you may require.  We currently serve clients from four continents of the globe.

Using GenericsWeb Patent Intelligence

Question

Response

What is a professional patent search? Patent searching is a notoriously difficult task that should be undertaken by professionals.  Professional patent searching involves time-consuming manipulation of commercial databases using complex strategies based on classifications, structures, keywords, citations and applicants.

Can I rely on Pipeline Patent Reports?

Pipeline patent reports are based on a professional search undertaken by patent experts GenericssWeb Pty Ltd, who have been reliably providing comprehensive information to legal professionals and generics firms of all sizes and nationalities for over five years.  All search staff are trained and experienced patent professionals, are multilingual, and have a background in chemical and pharmaceutical sciences.
Why use GenericsWeb for patent searching instead of patent attorneys? Although legal advice is essential to understand the implications of identified patents, identifying relevant patents is a job for patent information professionals.  Customised seraches are frequently carried out by personnel with little expertise in patent information and are rarely carried out by specialists in the generics industry.  Our focus on generic drugs improves our ability to identify and interpret the relevant patents and our economies of scale allow allocation of more time and effort to compiling the information without affecting our prices.
What drugs do you have patent information for? We are able to produce reports on any drug.  We can provide instant access to reports for over 80 generic drugs expiring between 2000 and 2012, while reports for new drugs are added weekly.  For those drugs not yet researched, we will provide a quote within one business day and timescale for completion of the report upon request (typically within four weeks).
Do you search veterinary products? Yes. If the product is not listed then please request a quote.
How do I calculate expiry dates? Download our help sheet.
What is the difference between ‘core patent family’ and ‘extended patent family? Core Patent Family consists of related patents published in those countries/territories that we have searched independently and monitor for changes. These include United States, Canadian, British, French, German, Spanish, Australian, European and World (PCT) publications. Extended Patent Family consists of related patents published in those countries/territories that have not been searched independently and are not monitored for changes. They are identified by finding equivalents to the 'core' patent family members in INPADOC based on priority data and have not been verified for accuracy.

Search Strategies

Question

Response

What search strategies are involved? The strategy employed comprises a combination of appropriate patent classification codes, and carefully selected keyword and applicant criteria in order to identify relevant patent publications. Further, advanced search techniques are utilised to enhance the initial results.  Search methods include citation, variations of names using Boolean logic, brand names, all generic names, applicant searching, mode of action and general search terms.  Primary data sources include commercial databases, INPADOC and national registers.
What countries are included in the patent search? We focus on identifying patent publications covering major generics territories including British, French, German, Spanish, European, Australian, Canadian, United States and World (PCT) publications.  Our reports can be extended to cover additional territories as required.
What is the scope and limitations of your searches? Please click here to read the 'scope and limitations' of Pipeline Selector and Pipeline Developer reporting.
Why can’t I find all the patents I need to know about from public sources of information? Patent searching is a complex and highly skilled task that should be undertaken by professionals , it involves identifying all relevant material from over 50 million published patent documents. There are numerous databases available facilitate this, some of which are free but, because of variation in the patent data contained in such databases, a suitably qualified professional must be used in order to extract the necessary information in an accurate and reliable manner. This is because innovator companies may use a range of means to avoid identification of their patents until the last minute, invoking maximum damage to generic competitors. Our patent searchers are qualified chemists, are multi-lingual and are experienced in the pharmaceutical patents. We combine these skills with complex, time-consuming patent searching techniques through a variety of commercial databases, individually analysing between 3000 and 6000 patents per active ingredient. We go to these lengths to give our customers confidence in their ability to make sound decisions based on our Pipeline Patent Intelligence.

Information Source

How long does it take to receive a report?
We can provide instant access to reports for over 70 generic drugs expiring between 2000 and 2012, while reports for new drugs are added weekly. Pipeline Developer: for those drugs not yet researched, we will provide a quote within one business day and a timescale for completion of the report upon request (typically within four weeks).  Pipeline Selector: reports not on our list can be produced within one week.
Where can I find pricing information? You can read about our pricing policy here, and you can access exact prices in the 'patents' section which is only available to authorised members (membership is free).
How do I order? Firstly you will need to register with us.  After authorisation of your registration you will be able to access the pricing and ordering pages in the 'patents' section.  The ordering process is extremely clear and provides all the information you need to know.  Alternatively, send us an email and we will process the order manually.  Bulk purchase discounts are not calculated automatically, so you will need to discuss this with us before you place your order.  We also need a signed 'GenericsWeb User Agreement', downloadable from the 'my details' section before we can provide you with patent intelligence.
Why are you so inexpensive? We are far more inexpensive than equivalent reporting performed by patent attorneys and other professional patent searchers because we are 100% dedicated to generic pharmaceuticals, and our business model is designed to support the cost-sensitive generic industry. Our Australian location also provides considerable time savings due to increased bandwidth availability to patent databases. These factors enable us to provide the highest quality searching at extremely cost-effective prices.

'Company Administrators' can authorise new members and order reports, 'Company Power Users' can order reports, 'Company Users' can only view reports, and 'Public Users' can not view reports.
What is the purpose of access levels? The four different access levels are designed to give our customers complete control and security over their account.  The 'Company Administrator' decides who can view and order reports, and receives email notification of any activity relating to their GenericsWeb account.
